The espresso, vanilla, and chocolate in the tiramisu are delicately balanced. The filling of mascarpone custard is wonderfully light and creamy, which works wonderfully with the rich coffee syrup.
Tiramisu requires a long list of ingredients, but the combination tastes incredible.
1 (15.25 ounce) package of moist white cake mix
1 cup water
3 large egg whites
⅓ cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon instant coffee powder
¼ cup coffee
1 tablespoon coffee-flavoured liqueur
1 (8-ounce) container of mascarpone cheese
½ cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons coffee-flavoured liqueur
2 cups heavy cream
¼ cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons coffee-flavoured liqueur
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 (1 ounce) square semisweet chocolate
What is Mascarpone?
Mascarpone is the Italian equivalent of cream cheese. It's simply whipped cream that has been stabilised with some sort of acid, such lemon juice or citric acid. When compared to cream cheese, mascarpone has a silkier texture, a milder flavour, and twice as much fat.
Turn the oven on and set it to 175 degrees Celsius. Coat three 9-inch pans with butter and flour.
To make the cake, mix the cake mix, water, egg whites, and oil with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes. Split 2/3 of the batter between the two pans that have been ready. Stir instant coffee into the rest of the batter and pour it into the other pan.
In the preheated oven, bake the cakes for 23 to 28 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean. After 10 minutes, turn the cake out onto a wire rack to finish cooling.
To make syrup, mix brewed coffee and coffee liqueur in a measuring cup and set it aside.
To make the filling, mix mascarpone, confectioners' sugar, and coffee liqueur on low speed with an electric mixer in a medium bowl until the mixture is smooth. Wrap it up in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge to keep it cool.
To make the frosting, use an electric mixer on medium-high speed to beat cream, confectioners' sugar, and coffee liqueur in a medium bowl until stiff. Mix together 1/2 cup of frosting and the chilled filling. Cover frosting and filling and put them in the fridge to keep them cool.
To put everything together, put one layer of plain cake on a serving plate. Use a thin skewer to poke holes about 1 inch apart in the cake. Pour a third of the coffee syrup over the cake, then put half of the filling on top. On top, put a layer of cake that tastes like coffee and poke holes in it. Pour the last third of the coffee syrup over the cake, then cover it with the rest of the filling. Put the last cake layer on top and poke holes in it. Pour on the rest of the coffee syrup. Spread frosting on the sides and top of the cake.
Tiramisu Tip: Chill the cake for at least 6 hours in the refrigerator or overnight and it will be very easy to slice
To finish, put cocoa powder in a sieve and lightly dust the top of the cake with it. Use a vegetable peeler to make curls along the edge of a bar of chocolate. Sprinkle chocolate curls on top of the cake.
Now that it’s all done, you can enjoy your work of art or even share it with your friends and family!
